Black Panther's Killmonger Is Getting His Own Comic For The First Time
Ryan Coogler's Black Panther made an immediate and monumental impact on the culture, and has become one of the most successful films of all time. Part of the film's success has to do with the fact that it, unlike so many of his MCU brethren, gave audiences a compelling villain. Michael B. Jordan's Erik Killmonger was magnetic, vicious and villainous-- but also sympathetic and tragic. And like all great villains, he believed wholeheartedly that what he was doing was right. Now fans that want to see more of this character can do so as Killmonger is getting his own comic for the first time.
The Killmonger solo comic will be written by Brian Edward Hill and illustrated by Juan Ferreyra who have previously worked on Detective Comics and Green Arrow respectively. According to Entertainment Weekly, the five-part miniseries will explore the tragic past of the man born N'Jadaka and what happened to bring him to the point where revenge is all he sees. The series will explore the tragedy of the character and how the failings of Wakanda, society and his own choices, lead Killmonger past the point of no return. Fans of Killmonger won't have to wait long for this deep dive into the character either. Killmonger #1 hits your local comic shop on December 5th.
Although many fans would have liked Killmonger to survive to battle it out with T'Challa again in the future, he died at the end of Black Panther. So we presumably won't get to see him in the MCU again. But this gives fans of the character and the Black Panther film another chance to spend time with Killmonger, and get to know a little more about him. We learned the broad strokes of his backstory in Black Panther, but it was really T'Challa's film. This solo Killmonger comic will add even more shading to his history and help us better understand how he got to the point he did. I'm guessing the more we know about him, the more tragic the path he went down and his eventual fate will look.
Of course, Killmonger wasn't the only standout in Black Panther and Marvel isn't leaving money on the table when it comes to capitalizing on the popularity of these characters. Shuri is also hugely popular and T'Challa's little sister is also getting a solo comic later this year. Right on time too, since a new theory suggest she may play an important role in Avengers 4.

In another discussion, the director went on to give a bit of tease for the fans. Sandberg revealed that the Shazam! costume will resemble the suit created for the character in DC animated universe.
