Watch Teachers Adorably Stumble Through The Greatest Showmans Biggest Songs
The music of The Greatest Showman was incredibly popular when the film released last year and the soundtrack is still clearly popular, which means it's time for the slightly embarrassing YouTube imitators. Lip sync videos are a popular YouTube phenomenon, but it comes to another level when a bunch of school teachers decide to do their best rendition of the film's most popular songs. Check out this fun, and hilarious, video from St Wilfrid's Catholic School in the UK.
The first number in the medley, a rendition of "The Greatest Show" is actually pretty good, all things considered. The use of light and shadow and a decent costume from the teacher playing the P.T. Barnum role makes the opening look the most like it came out of the movie. It's not until the guy in the Hugh Jackman role moves out from behind the risers that we notice he's in a gymnasium. The teachers are all there to foot stomp along to the music and it all looks pretty great. The energy of the dancing might leave a little something to be desired, but they can't all by Phys Ed teachers."This is Me" also works pretty well. The song is about having the courage to be yourself, after all, so the fact that everybody performing the song might look slightly out of place is sort of the point. Though, one has to wonder what terrible event took place in the school library that caused this woman to feel the need to break out into a song like that.
We've certainly seen worse, though the part of the video where two teachers sitting in the lounge do their best to channel Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron for "The Other Side" is a bit rough.
These sorts of videos are a fairly popular YouTube pastime and seeing teachers get involved is also somewhat common. This particular school has done several similar videos in the past as a quick look at their YouTube channel revels renditions of "Uptown Funk" and the school's own version of Carpool Karaoke. It does appear that music runs in the school's history. A quick search reveals that Robert Smith of The Cure once attended the school.
This is just another example of how the popularity of The Greatest Showman has continued on following its release in theaters, especially in the UK. The movie was never number one at the domestic box office, but it remained a strong contender for months after release. In recent months we've had reports of Hugh Jackman singing along to the songs from the film in a restaurant and seen Jackman come upon people listing to the music randomly. It seems we can't escape these songs. Luckily, they're still catchy, so that's not the worst thing in the world.
