Marvel Is Getting Its Own Avengers-Themed Areas At Disney Parks
Disney has become the undisputed king of the box office in recent years, in large part thanks to its purchase of powerful brands Pixar, Marvel and Lucasfilm. But Disney is more than just a movie studio, and what happens on the silver screen can play a huge role in Disney's many theme parks around the world and vice versa. Given the unprecedented success of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and with Avengers: Infinity War approaching, Disney has decided to take things to the next level. Disney parks around the world will soon be getting their own Avengers-themed areas.
The parks will be partnering with Marvel Studios and Marvel Themed Entertainment to bring these superheroic areas to three Disney parks: Disneyland Resort in California, Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland, with each getting its own unique experience. Disneyland in Anaheim will open a super hero-themed land in the Disney California Adventure park in 2020 that will continue to evolve in subsequent years. This new immersive superhero land featuring the Avengers and Spider-Man will replace A Bug's Land, which currently occupies the space. The already-open Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission: BREAKOUT! ride will anchor the new superhero-themed land. Over in Paris, the Walt Disney Studios Park area will get a Marvel-themed land in 2020, including an attraction featuring Iron Man and the Avengers. On the other side of the world, in Hong Kong Disneyland, a new themed area and an "Ant-Man and the Wasp" attraction will join the existing Iron Man Experience. Given the success of the MCU, it was only a matter of time before the House of Ideas took up a greater presence in Disney's beloved parks. In fact, coinciding with the release of Black Panther, the Wakandan warrior king and his Dora Milaje have already shown up at Disney's California Adventure. Disney is looking to capitalize on the popularity of Marvel's characters, and doing this will continue to bring in guests, despite rising prices. Now, some of you may have noticed a glaring omission from that list of theme parks getting the superhero boost: Walt Disney World in Florida was not mentioned. This is likely because of the deal struck between pre-Disney Marvel and Universal Studios Florida, which greatly restricts what Disney can do with Marvel characters in theme parks domestically. There is a reason that the area being added to Disneyland in California is described as superhero-themed, and foreign parks will have Marvel-themed lands. But there is clearly some wiggle room since Walt Disney World's EPCOT park will be getting a Guardians of the Galaxy ride in the future.
Disney's parks have been in a major state of evolution in recent years with constant new additions and transformations as they become more modern and tied in with Disney's cinematic offerings. Animal Kingdom in Florida opened an Avatar-themed Pandora land not long ago, and Star Wars is coming to Disney's parks in a big way in the coming years. Disneyland and Walt Disney World each have some huge upgrades hitting this year giving guests some fresh new reasons to visit the most magical place on Earth.
