When Star Wars Galaxy's Edge Will Open At Disneyland And Disney World
Star Wars Galaxy's Edge is guaranteed to be a major draw when it opens. We've known that would happen sometime in 2019, but now we know when in 2019 we can travel to the galaxy far, far away. Disney Parks has announced that Galaxy's Edge will open at Disneyland sometime in the summer of 2019, while the Walt Disney World version of the land will arrive in late fall of the same year.
It had previously been announced that the Disneyland version of Galaxy's Edge would open first, but we had no idea how much of a jump on Disney World the land would get. Now, we know the gap won't be all that much. Although, exactly how long still isn't clear. Specific opening dates weren't given, so while we still have a window of time regarding when we'll finally be able to pilot the Millennium Falcon, that window is now much smaller.
The summer of 2019 will begin just over a year from now, so that's about how long we have to wait. Although, depending on how fast and loose Disneyland is with the term, we could be looking see Star Wars Galaxy's Edge Opening sooner than that. The summer vacation season, when school's let out, is actually starting around now in many places, so we could see the space open as early as May. Pandora - The World of Avatar at Disney's Animal Kingdom opened in late May, and if Disney can hit that date it would be perfect, as they'd have their popular new area open as soon as families were able to come check it out. Still, odds are we're looking at the beginning of the summer rather than the end, since the word "late" wasn't used here. So expect it to open by July at the absolute latest.
On the other coast, Walt Disney World's Galaxy's Edge is specifically given a "late" fall opening, which means we're probably looking at an opening in November or December. The opening would coincide with the holiday season, which is already a popular time to visit the parks. It's only going to get more crowded when Star Wars becomes a bigger part of the park. It also means that Disney World will get Galaxy's Edge right alongside the release of Star Wars: Episode IX.
Star Wars Galaxy's Edge promises to be the most immersive area in the history of theme parks. Rather than simply being a collection of rides and attractions. Galaxy's Edge is it's own place, a representation of a planet called Batuu which exists within the Star Wars universe. Along with the announcement we got a fun teaser video which shows what Batuu will look like when we all get there next year.
