The Eyeball Injury Johnny Knoxville Got While Shooting Action Point Is Disgusting

This summer, two major movie stars will once again be giving everything that they have, physically, to entertain their die-hard fans. Tom Cruise risks life and limb in the latest Mission: Impossible movie, naturally. But before that, Johnny Knoxville slips back into his spare-no-stunt Jackass persona to bring a new comedy to theaters. In Action Point, Knoxville plays the one-time owner of a dilapidated theme park who removes all safety restrictions in order to drum up more business. And according to the actor, he injured himself badly for his art. Again. Only, this one sounds horrific. Explains Knoxville:

I got hurt more on this film than any film I've ever done. I got four concussions, broke my wrist, busted my knee, got stitches, whiplash, uh, lost two and half teeth. ... Once I got home from the emergency room after one bad concussion ... I had blood in my nose so I blew my nose, and when I did, my left eye popped out of the socket. ... They say I didn't break [a bone near my eye], it disappeared on impact, so when I was blowing my nose I was blowing air around my eyeball pushing it out.

Let's stop for a minute and discuss the pain that Johnny Knoxville endured for Action Point. When a guy who has filmed countless Jackass stunts says that he got more hurt for this than for anything else, you sit up and take notice. Concussions? Expected. Stitches? Probably unavoidable. Losing almost three teeth? Yeah, that's where I'd punch out.

But the eyeball, which he talks about with Vulture? That's beyond a deal-breaker. That can't happen. It can't be allowed to happen! Imagine the pain that must come with breaking your skull so badly that the simple act of blowing your nose... sorry, blowing BLOOD from your nose, causes your eyeball to leave its socket.

Throwing up now.

You'd probably assume that Action Point shut down production for weeks to let Johnny Knoxville heal. You would be wrong. Vulture says that instead, the production simply had to film its leading man from the right side of his face for about six days.

While moviegoers are used to a never ending stream of content coming our way, movie making is a long, difficult, and even dangerous process. When big action sequences and effects are added into the mix, things can get even more scary, despite the goal of telling a story to silver screen. We've seen quite a few recent examples of deadly on set accidents, where crew members, stunt performers, and the like have lost life and limb in the process. This includes Edward Norton's upcoming drama Motherless Brooklyn, which had an unexpected fire while filming in March. A firefighter lost his life while tending to the situation, and now a lawsuit is coming Norton's way from the firefighter's wife.

Eileen Davidson filed the suit, after she lost her husband Michael in the line of duty. The main point of the suit is that Ed Norton's production company Class 5 reportedly took out the fire safety system from the building used to shoot Motherless Brooklyn. As such, she's suing both Class 5 and the owner of the building itself.

This news, which comes to us from The Blast, has once again brought Michael Davidson's tragic death back into the spotlight. His is just the latest in a series of tragic on set deaths that have occurred in the past few years. Production for Motherless Brooklyn paused for a week in the wake off Davidson's death, but ultimately continued shooting the project, which stars the likes of Edward Norton, Willem Dafoe, and Alec Baldwin.

While Michael Davidson wasn't a member of the Motherless Brooklyn crew, his death is made especially tragic due to his selflessness as a Firefighter. He helped to contain the situation on the set of the movie, and ultimately lost his life in the process. Still, it points out just how dangerous film sets can be.

There have been quite a few terrifying and even tragic on set accidents in big budget movies, mostly related to action sequences and major blockbusters. The most recent happened early in the process of Deadpool 2, where stunt double SJ Harris had a motorcycle accident, and later passed away due to her injuries. The film was dedicated to her memory. Years ago, a crew member died on the set of Resident Evil: The Final Chapter. Meanwhile, the Maze Runner star Dylan O'Brien suffered massive injuries when a stunt went wrong, with his life and the franchise in the balance.

All of these incidents hammer home the importance of safety on film sets. While deadlines and budgets often dictate how production is handled, one misstep could mean the difference between life and death.

Ever since Ben Affleck retired as Batman at the beginning of the year, fans have been wondering who would play the next version of the Caped Crusader in the DC Extended Universe. All that had been revealed was that it would be someone younger than Affleck and that The Batman director Matt Reeves was looking for someone well known. Well, evidently Twilight star Robert Pattinson was the best man for the job with those qualifications.

Weeks after he was among the rumored actors up for the Batman role, word has come in Robert Pattinson will don the cape and cowl next, with a deal set to close shortly. This makes him the seventh actor to play Batman in a live action theatrical movie, and the second youngest actor to ever bring the character to life in his superhero persona, following Christian Bale. According to Variety, Pattinson has been cast to lead The Batman even as Matt Reeves is still polishing the final draft of the script.

Robert Pattinson is best known for playing Edward Cullen in the five Twilight movies from 2008 to 2012, and his other notable credits include Queen of the Desert, Life (2015), The Lost City of Z and High Life. The Batman marks Pattinsons second upcoming Warner Bros project, as hes already set to star alongside John David Washington and Elizabeth Debicki in Christopher Nolans next movie.

It is worth mentioning that Deadline claims that Nicholas Hoult is still in the running for The Batman, though Robert Pattinson has the edge on the short list. Given that Hoult had already played Beast in four X-Men movies, itd be nice if Pattinson gets the opportunity to leave his own mark on the superhero genre.

Although The Batman is featuring a younger version of the eponymous protagonist, it will not be an origin story in the vein of Year One. No specific plot details have been revealed yet, but its said to be a noir-driven tale that will highlight Bruce Waynes detective skills, which havent been explored in-depth in previous Batman movies.

As far as villains go, Matt Reeves has said that The Batman will feature a rogues gallery, with Penguin said to be one of the antagonists. Beyond that, well have to wait and see what kind of stamp Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson put on this 80-year-old character that distinguishes him from past iterations. Production is reportedly scheduled to begin either towards the end of the year or in early 2020 in London.
